BASIC INFO
During the fission process, a number of neutrons are released, and if these go on to make new fission events, a chain reaction results. The use of a controlled chain reaction is the starting point for all nuclear power stations.
ATOMS, PROTONS, ELECTRONS, AND THE NUCLEUS!
An atom is made up of of an extremely small, positively charged nucleaus surrounded by a cloud of negatively charged electrons. Even though the nucleus is extremly small it holds about 99.9% of the atom. Nuclei is made up of of positively charged protons and electrically neutral neutrons held together by the so-called strong or nuclear force. This force is much stronger than the familiar electrostatic force that holds together the electrons to the nucleus.
